Methodologies in Clinical Education (Module Two)

What it's about

The second module of the course gives you a solid grounding in current clinical education methodologies. You'll learn to make a significant contribution to education in practice and to take a lead role in the development of educational practice within your practice setting.

Indicative syllabus

The syllabus for the second module includes the following key areas:

  • Meaningful engagement with current literature in clinical education.
  • The importance of theoretical rigour and a systematic and reflexive approach to clinical teaching.
  • An overview of the dominant methodologies used in clinical education teaching and consideration of their historical background.
  • Critically consider current pedagogical debates in relation to personal activity in clinical education.
  • Consider creative and complementary approaches to clinical education practice.

Learning outcomes

On completing the second module of your course, you should be able to:

  • Demonstrate a systematic and comprehensive knowledge of theoretically based, systematic approaches to the use of teaching learning and assessment in clinical education.
  • Critically review the range of teaching, learning and assessment methodologies available to the clinical teacher.
  • Synthesise different ways of thinking about teaching, focusing on an illustrative example.
