Dissertation

What it's about

The aim of the dissertation is to demonstrate your ability to design and conduct a substantial piece of health or social care research on a topic related to the title and aim of your award. In applying the range of research skills learned throughout the programme, you also develop a deeper understanding of the research process.

Learning outcomes

On completing your course, you should be able to:

  • Design an independent piece of research, based on a critical review of the subject and methodology.
  • Conduct a piece of research that is methodologically and ethically sound.
  • Provide evidence of skills in data collection, analysis and interpretation of research findings.
  • Critically evaluate and contextualise their research and consider its relevance to theory, policy and/or professional practice.
  • Present a logically argued and clearly written research report.
